Historical Illinois Town Named Best in Nation for Thanksgiving

If you want to get out of town for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, there is one place in Illinois that is getting praise for being one of the best towns to visit.

Galena

Known for its historical attractions, one-of-a-kind boutiques, and small-town charm, Galena, Illinois, is being touted by Country Living as the place to visit this Thanksgiving.

With its perfectly preserved 19th-century buildings, this Midwestern hamlet looks as if it's frozen in time. About 85 percent of the town is a national historic district.

I hear about Galena from a lot of people as being a fun charming town to visit and yet I have yet to visit. It's on my bucket list for sure and one of these days I plan on getting myself to Galena so that I can experience all the charm like everyone else.

Hermann, Missouri

One of the jewel towns of Missouri is Hermann and it also makes the list for a town to visit on Thanksgiving. From wineries to dozens of German heritage restaurants and retail shops and more, Germann makes the perfect getaway for a weekend.

Not sure if it's the right place to bring the kids, but if you need a quick run getaway this is it. The shopping on "Shop Small Business Saturday" will be amazing this year.
