Many in Illinois Furious Over New Costco Rule, But I Don’t Get It
If you enjoy being mad, I don't want to stop you. But, I must admit that I don't understand why so many in Illinois seem to be furious about a new rule at Costco. Can't we all just get along?
According to the official Costco website, there are 23 warehouses in Illinois. Multiply that by the hundreds at each location that seem to be ticked about a new policy. Here's a Reddit thread dedicated to this very topic.
I work at Costco. We hate the scanner door policy more than you do.

If you're wondering what everyone in Illinois seems to be up in arms about, welcome to my club. As Forbes mentioned a few weeks ago, Costco now requires you to scan your card as you enter the store. What a travesty. (*sarcasm*)
Why do so many in Illinois object to scanning their Costco membership cards?
Two words - membership sharing. Costco is trying to eliminate members sharing their cards with those who haven't paid for the privilege, so this is their attempt at reducing that loophole.
I understand the world we live in where many share their Netflix memberships (which Netflix is now cracking down on, too), but if you want the privilege, you should pay the piper. Using a benefit that costs others that you didn't pay for is stealing (in my very unpopular opinion).
Again, be mad if you want to, but I'm taking Costco's side on this one. If you're a ticked off Illinoisan, sorry not sorry. Costco is right.
