Missouri Gardeners Alert: NWS Says Wait to Plant
Warm weather has arrived in Missouri a little earlier than normal which has many itching to get into their gardens and get to work. The National Weather Service is warning that it's still too early to plant without risking a late freeze ruining all of your hard work.
The National Weather Service in St. Louis just shared this advisory to anyone who's thinking of getting a head start on their garden this Spring
If you're a gardener, you should check out the National Weather Service's Frost & Freeze Decision support page. While much of Missouri has already seen daily highs spike into the low 80's, there are still dips below freezing during the overnight hours into mid-April and even early May possible. That's why the National Weather Service is sharing the average last hard freeze, last freeze and last frost dates. Just because the daytime temps are already feeling like summer, there are more cold dips expected over the next two weeks or so. That doesn't mean that Missouri plants that have already been deployed are doomed, but it does infer that it's risky to plant this early. If there's anything we've learned about Missouri weather, it's that unpredictability is its specialty. That's one of the few things in life you can absolutely count on.
