104 in Illinois About to Be Jobless As Plant Suddenly Closes
It's one of the worst types of news you can be given. More than 100 in Illinois were just notified that they are about to be jobless as the plant they work at is closing based on an official notice to the state.
According to paper industry website Packaging Dive, International Paper Company in Rockford, Illinois is closing their plant there. The Illinois Work Net site confirms the layoffs of 104 individuals. The bulletin says the last day of business for that Illinois plant will be December 18, 2024 - exactly one week prior to Christmas Day.
These layoffs are reportedly happening across the country and affect a total of 674 workers.
The Packaging Dive story says that there are company officials that are hopeful that International Paper Company can be sold and efforts are apparently underway to make that happen.
Considering the fact that nearly all of the world operates primarily on digital platforms these days, you'd have to think that a paper company would have a challenge finding a successful way forward. For the sake of the remaining workers, let's hope they can find a strategy that will be effective.
