The ultimate measure for how safe (or not) a highway is depends on how many lives are taken on it. There are 2 of America's most dangerous highways that go straight through Missouri and there's no indication this sad trend will change anytime soon.

The Zebra just updated their annual ranking of the 10 most dangerous roads in America. 2 of the highways on their list will be familiar for anyone that's driven in Missouri.

The two highway culprits that have the most fatalities include one you might not expect and the most deadly will almost certainly be a surprise.

What is the most deadly highway that goes through Missouri?

It's Interstate 35 which goes north to south through the western half of Missouri through the Kansas City area. While it only traverses 115 miles in Missouri, the fatality rate is astonishing. The average is 12.56 fatalities for every 100 miles which is a large number.

The other most dangerous American highway that goes through Missouri is not a surprise. It's Interstate 70. The 250 miles that it travels across Missouri is perilous. I've had so many close calls on it over the years, I'm not surprised at all that it ended up on this notorious list (again). The average is 7.35 fatalities for every 100 miles which is also big (and sad).
